Pap Test

The examination is performed during a regular gynecological examination.

The Pap test is a screening test, that is, one that is performed even in healthy women without any signs of possible disease, to detect early cervical cancer or changes that could become cervical cancer over the years. Its introduction has contributed significantly to the reduction of mortality from cervical cancer (also known as cervical cancer) so it should be performed regularly, every three years, by all women after the onset of sexual activity or in any case from the age of 25.

The speculum, a special instrument that slightly dilates the vaginal opening so as to facilitate sampling, is applied. The operator then gently inserts a special spatula and cotton swab, which are used to collect small amounts of mucus from the cervix and cervical canal, respectively. On this sample, exfoliated cells from the tissue will be sought in the laboratory for examination by special staining methods and thorough computer examination.
